Atlanta's AJC 6/15/08 article on MEXICO BEACH

The following is a little information on the different beaches in our area...enjoy!

Northwest Florida Beaches…The Forgotten Coast of Florida

There are more beautiful beaches along the panhandle of Florida then most people have time to visit. Mexico Beach, St Joe Beach, WindMark Beach, Cape San Blas, Indian Pass and all the little beach areas in between them like C-30 and Money Bayou…..each having it’s own personality!!!

 WINDMARK BEACH

Windmark Beach is located between the town of Port St Joe and St Joe Beach. This stretch of beach is wide, natural and very beautiful. Windmark will be the first major planned community in this area. The town center at WindMark is in the process of opeining the shops and the School of Fish Resturant will be open this week.  It is being run by Brennans out of New Orleans.  Ther are  3.5 miles of  boardwalk along the beach that allow you to walk bike ,walk your dog and wat the sunset!   No houses will be built seaward of the planned boardwalk.  Take a look at this new WINDMARK BEACH VIDEO     Tour the IDEAL HOUSE at WindMark Beach

 MEXICO BEACH

Mexico Beach is where the action is. A lot of the growth is in this stretch of beach. There are several new complexes of condos being build…and the wonderful thing is they have height’s restriction so we should never have high rises blocking your water view. Great beach and lots of water activities are available in Mexico Beach. Public beach access to the water is plentiful. There are a lot of very good vacation rentals in the beach.

ST JOE BEACH

St Joe Beachis more residential then other areas of the Forgotten Coast. On the beach-side there is only one house at the end of each street end. The land between is public access. You will find Hobie Cat sailboats on the beach where the residents still feel comfortable leaving them so they have easy access to launch when the wind is good! You will find beautiful beaches with few people on the beach.

INDIAN PASS BEACH

Indian Pass Beach is tucked away from the crowd and the residence like it that way!. This wonderful little peninsula is home to many artists. The beach is very very wide and primitive; few if any people are ever around. At the tip of the Peninsula you are just a stones throw away from St Vincent Island which offers 12,000 acres of untamed land and protected habitat. There is a shuttle service for day trips to St Vincent. Although Indian Pass Beach is located on a peninsula it offers high ground. When visiting make sure you stop at the Indian Pass Raw Bar it is one of the local hang outs and offers great food.

CAPE SAN BLAS

Cape San Blas offers spectacular sugar white beach. You can walk for miles and miles on this beach. ST.JOSEPH PENINSULA STATE PARK is at the northern tip of the Cape. The Cape is a get-away- from- the- world vacation. There is one gas station and 2 restaurants on the Cape! You rent a house and enjoy the peace and quite. Stop at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Port St Joe for your groceries before you head out that way! One of my favorite things to do is to rent a kayak and go scalloping in St Joseph Bay…

WETAPPO CREEK, INTER-COASTAL WATERWAY, OVERSTREET

Wetappo Creek,Inter-coastal Waterway Is a fishermen's dream.! Just a few miles from the beach.  This area offers an incredible winding waterways that takes you to the open water.  Wetappo Creek meanders along, around and across the Inter-coastal Waterway.  This is NOT the inter-coastal your know from southern Florida...It is primitive, beautiful and untouched.  Just a few miles from the beach but a different world.  It is a breathtaking area.

Diving of the Coast of Mexico Beach

SCUBA DIVING off the Coast of Mexico Beach  at one of the artifical reefs that  MBAFA has put in along the coast.  Just one of the wonderful things that you can do while you visit the Forgotten Coast.  Visit MBAFA website to learn more about fishing and Diving around these reefs.

This once small rural BEACH FRONT Paper Mill town is now in the process of fast becoming a family fun beach destination!

Unlike the Emerald Coast of  PANAMA CITY BEACHDESTIN and even PENSACOLA building restrictions are already in place that hopefully will restrict any high-rises from being built in the area and especially along the beach.  There is still plenty of public beach access. Drive your car up to the beach and walk down to the beach!

Now...that isn't to say that there isn't development going on here...ST. JOE TOWNS AND RESORT'S WindMark Beach planned community  is well under way and the Town Center will be in use the summer. There are miles and miles of untouched beachfront that their boardwalk will go along for all to use.

Sacred Heart Hospital has their sign up and should begin construction this year.

This alone will change this area for the better and forever!  The Old Paper Mill site will become a planned bay side community with shopping, green areas and homes.  CENTURY 21 GULF COAST REALTY'S planned communities on CAPE SAN BLAS, OVATION AND JUBILATION offer many amenities that have previously been unseen in this area.  The CITY of PORT ST. JOE master plan is to link the Mill site with boardwalks to the old town area so the downtown area does not lose its charm.

BEACH REAL ESTATE opportunities are everywhere in this area.  BEACH FRONT,BAY FRONT AND INTER-COASTAL WATERWAY are just a few.  This is an untouched paradise!

As a member of the Economic Development Committee for Gulf County I am able to keep my finger on the pulse of what is being planned in this area...let me tell you ...It is very exciting!

If you have questions and just want to talk about the area and what is going on here ...call me 850-227-4355 or email me at Nshoaf@fairpoint.net I look forward to working with you.
